What's New at Beung Kaen Nakhon, Khon Kaen Thailand 061012

We arrived In Khon Kaen Thursday morning and are staying at the BB Hotel across the street from the Beung and it looks like businesses are dying out with speed. Two big ones on the west side of the Beung are gone as well as another on the east side corner across from the Beung. One, old timer, on the west side is not only closed it is torn down and the land for sale. On the up side there is a new sculpture garden by the City Museum across from the Chinese shrine near the northwest corner.
And the big surprise is that the Tourism Authority of Thailand has moved down to the Beung. Why here is the question. For one the Beung is off the beaten path and perhaps too many people were stopping in the previous centrally located office asking embarrassing questions, such as where is Beung Kaen Nakhon. Anyhow they have arrived and perhaps now might actually add sites missed and remove sites they list that no longer exist, but I doubt it.
The Qwaan Yin and the Chinese Park are as tidy and well looked after as always, while signage and so on around the area is in the usual state of disrepair
