The Songkram River, which travels through Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Sakhon Nakon, and Nakon Phnom, where it enters the Mekhong River is the only river in the region that is not flood protected by a dam. In other words the Mekhong can back up the Songram during high water months.
This is adversized as a place to view a "2 coloured rriver" or a place where you can see the clear waters meet the muddy Mekhong. And this was actually one of the times it could be seen.
