In 1945 Lui Janthasaro, a disciple of Achaan Man’s began restoring a deserted wat to turn it into a forest hermitage. Shortly afterwards Achaan man, at the age of 75 and too old for wandering, settled into the hermitage, and died there in 1949.
The wat became an official Thammayut monastery in 1982.
It is located in Tambon Nanai, Amphor Phanna Nikhom, Changwat Sahon Nakhon.
As far as I know the Man Um Reservoir was not there back in the day and it still today to find cool tranquility in the shade of the forest which is now surrounded by paddy fields.
Anyone interested in the lineage, that period in Isaan and about Buddhism in Thailand should read “Forest Recollections”, by Kamala Tiyavinich.
Anyone interested in visiting send me an emai, firstname.lastname@example.org, as I located it by GPS and also have the routes recorded.
